Manual: a journal about art and its making, a twice-yearly publication, uses the collections, exhibitions, and collaborations of the RISD Museum as an impetus for essays and interviews, artist interventions, and archive highlights. A fusion of academic arts journal and design magazine, Manual is a resource for engaged conversations about art, design, and the impact of creative making by curators, artists, scholars, and educators.
Produced entirely by the in-house design staff at the museum. Each issue contains unique printed objects—artist projects, posters, tarot cards, stickers, bookmarks, etc. I've contributed art direction, design and production for almost all 20 issues.
Working with the museum's custom Drupal cms, I've built and maintained Manual's web presence. Each new issue includes several preview articles that offer unique digital experiences as well as long-form reading content.

In support of the exhibition Variance: Making, Unmaking, and Remaking Disability, a complete digital edition of Issue 17 was created alongside the print edition and offered to readers free of charge. The museum worked with a web-accessibility consultant to review the journal's online content and help us create an accessible digital publication and workflow. Alongside leading a small team of designers, I also contributed art direction and design for the entire digital edition.
